Dex Nilsson is author of several books including Discover Why It's Called ... about how 150 places on the Maryland Eastern Shore got their names and The Names of Washington, D.C., about 275 places in the nation's capital. He arrived in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1954. He holds a B.S. degree from Purdue with majors in chemistry and English, and has worked as a publications manager for Thiokol Chemical Corporation, later for General Electric Company in Huntsville and Maryland.
