The majority of her work focuses on families in transition, either divorcing or blending new families. Ms. Leister has dedicated her career to helping children and their parents manage their feelings during this time of change. Max Meets Emma: Learning About Blended Families From A Basset Hound's Perspective is a fiction story to assist children and their parents with talking about normal feelings children have when blending a new family unit with their family unit, including common fears about having to share their toys, home and possibly a pet with other children. This story uses humor and symbolism allowing children to place themselves inside the story as they relate to the loveable characters of Max and Emma.
