Description

Fulfilled by our friends at Books by splitShops

by Kevin Acers (Author)

This fresh collection of free verse and prose poems has subject matter both familiar (nature, grief, dreams) and surprising--such as thirteen poems, interspersed throughout the collection, which focus on the last moments in a crow's life. Settings are as diverse as supermarkets, city streets, Asia, the sea, a hot tub, and the moon. Various characters come to life: a Native American panhandler, a penny-pinching doctor, a retired teacher, a man with a nervous daschund, an oxygen-depleted astronaut, Jesus Christ descending from heaven in an elevator, an 8th century Chinese poet, and of course the ill-fated crows. Quirky but not frivolous, "The Murder of Crows" presents a literary mosaic of moments in life and imagination. SELECTED AS OKLAHOMA BOOK AWARD FINALIST BY THE OKLAHOMA CENTER FOR THE BOOK

Author Biography

Kevin Acers is a lesser known poet whose work has appeared in literary journals and other publications. This is his third collection, after "Time Machine: Prose Poems & Vignettes" and "Dead Mouse Poems." He lives and writes in Oklahoma City where he has worked as a social worker, educator, and human rights advocate. He served in the Peace Corps for four years in the 1980s and holds graduate degrees in language teaching and social work. To the limited extent that he is known, he is known as a cat person.
