Description

Fulfilled by our friends at Books by splitShops

by Jennifer M. Devers (Author), April Zay (Illustrator)

The story is based on a mother's devotion to the Catholic religion. My mother grew up in North Philadelphia in a section called Swampoodle, and belonged to Saint Columbus Parish where she attended grade school. The Parish was consolidated with many other churches in the Philadelphia area, and Saint Martin de Porres Parish was established on July 1, 1993.

My mother, Charlotte McElwee, has one one brother and fours sisters, one of whom was named Dorothy McElwee. She joined the Poor Clares of the Franciscan Monastery on December 8, 1950, and changed her name to Sister Mary Immaculate. My mother got married on June 29, 1957, and had seven daughters, 15 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Charlotte raised her children with her husband, John Devers, in the town of Roslyn, Pennsylvania. When Charlotte and John retired, they moved to Brigantine, New Jersey.
